Documentary training and mentoring programme

An Initiative to mentor documentary production in South Asia

DocWok is a tutoring and mentoring programme for documentaries in production in South Asia. DocWok supports documentary practice by bringing in expert guidance for editing, completion, publicity and presentation of the film. DocWok mentors rough cuts, from editing to international exhibition.

DocWok acknowledges that the independent documentary practice in South Asia is vibrant, widespread and rigorous. It has led to a new language of cinema with very little organised support in terms of funding, training or distribution.

Most film schools concentrate on fiction, with a passing reference to the documentary. This is true across South Asia as well as among public or private funded film schools. Therefore, DocWok is conceptualised as a film school without campus, addressed to filmmakers who have begun production.

DocWok, firstly is a play on the South Asian manner of speaking, (we often say talk-shalk, gup-shup) and secondly, of course it is what it means, a cauldron to add the final touches to food before serving, in this case, the documentary.
